Class Descriptions

Yoga Center of Denver has class offerings designed to guide you through a learning process that includes the full range of asana, pranayama and meditative practices. Depending on the class, and on the day, students can experience vigorous asana, static holding asana, and restorative asana.

Yoga Center of Denver teaches students of every age and fitness level. Genuine progress in yoga requires the practitioner to have a dedicated personal practice as well as a practice in community. In addition to yoga classes at distinct levels, our weekly schedule includes other specialty classes and workshops, incorporating various modalities of yoga while maintaining our roots in the Iyengar tradition.

Which Yoga Class Is Right For Me?

Fundamental Iyengar

We encourage students with little experience in Iyengar Yoga Method to take these fundamental Iyengar classes.

Iyengar Yoga is a special and fundamental style of yoga that most other yoga styles stemmed off of. This Method focuses on precision in alignment and postures for a more balanced practice and promote injury prevention and recovery.

These classes provide students new to the Iyengar method  fundamental knowledge of preliminary asanas.

All Levels Iyengar

In these classes, we share approaches to creating a safe, sustainable yoga practice with students of all levels using the Iyengar Yoga Methods. Whether you’re looking to realign with the heart of traditional yoga or are just getting started, learn postures, foundations, and philosophies to guide you on your journey.

Intermediate Iyengar

Explore the alchemy of alignment and movement safely and intelligently. Practice every category of asana. Expect sophisticated instructions, and prop variations.

Modifications will be made to accommodate absolutely everyone, yet this class is most appropriate for yogis who can kick up to the wall in an inversion and press up into Urdhva Dhanurasana.

Advanced Iyengar

This yoga class is geared toward students developing a home practice and those who have a firm understanding of the fundamental poses in the Iyengar Yoga tradition, including Salamba Sarvangasana variations and Sirsasana variations. Advanced Iyengar classes include a broader study of the eight limbs of yoga.

Power Vinyasa Flow

In this class we incorporate movements that strengthen your entire body. You’ll leave your mat feeling great in both mind and body, knowing you completed a beautifully well-rounded class.

Build heat and cultivate strength as you move through a beautifully-sequenced and continuous flow.

PranaVinyasa

Prana Vinyasa is an embodied yoga sadhana guided to attune us to the universal flow of prana felt through the breath as the guiding intelligence of the individual. Prana is the primary source of organizing intelligence in nature that we can cultivate instinctual alignment with. In this class, you will experience an innovative approach to vinyasa yoga and the state of flow within the rhythm of class. Practitioners learn classical and evolutionary teachings of vinyasa yoga and the state of flow drawn from Krishnamacharya’s teachings, Tantra, Ayurveda, Bhakti, and Somatics. All levels are welcome in this progressive and multidimensional asana practice.

Ashtanga Mysore Style

Mysore Ashtanga is how ashtanga yoga is traditionally taught. In a Mysore class, each practitioner flows through a set sequence at their own pace following their own breath. Yes, the teacher is present, however, they don’t lead the class. This is where the true magic happens. The teacher is there to hold space and offer one on one verbal and hands-on adjustments. Beginners can use our Ashtanga sheet to remember the sequence and are encouraged to attend. Mysore Ashtanga classes will help all practitioners understand the practice and get the attention they may need!

Healthy Joints

This class promotes biomechanical health, also known commonly as joint mobility. During this class, you’ll practice asana using the floor and gravity to neutralize stress and tension in the passive body. You’ll work from your joints, not your muscles, to maintain or return your body to its optimal structure and function. Poses are held for an extended amount of time to encourage the harder tissues to change with continued practice.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a sequence of long held asanas that inspire inner listening. Students can expect to hold postures anywhere between 4-6 minutes. This class is a passive, breath oriented meditation on stillness and the natural inner pulse. Although the modern approach to Yin is a synthesis modality with many influences, this practice invites the roots and evolution of yogic theory to support a somatic approach to regenerating your nervous system.

Aerial Exploration

An aerial yoga class curated for beginner to intermediate students. Foundational aerial asanas will be introduced, leading into an exploration of intermediate poses. Various kramas, or stages, will be explained in great detail with the option to advance to slightly more challenging experiences in the hammock. This class is suitable for beginners, but will also intrigue students excited about deepening their aerial yoga practice.

Vinyasa Flow and Sound

This class combines a gentle all levels Vinyasa flow with sound healing. Sound healing promotes a state of deep relaxation by clearing and aligning all of the energy centers of the body. This practice seeks to illuminate you from the inside out, while restoring balance and promoting a deep state of inner peace to the body, mind, and spirit.

Intro to Acro Yoga

Learn the foundations of acroyoga in a fun and supportive environment!

In this weekly foundational acroyoga class, we will practice and revisit – the basic poses and foundational skills of acroyoga, safety and spotting techniques, drills and conditioning to build strength in the practice, terms and communication within the acroyoga community, acroyoga games, and more!

Candlelight Yin

Yin yoga is a quiet, meditative practice with long, deep holding of passive poses. Using mindful muscle relaxation, yin postures target the connective tissue nourishing joints, ligaments, and fascia promoting the healthy flow of chi (energy). The Yin practice is a wonderful compliment to more vigorous yoga practices or activities such as running, cycling, and hiking. The practice is suitable and encouraged for all levels of practitioners. Enjoy this Yin yoga class by candlelight.

Rope Wall Yoga

In this specialized class, you will be led through a sequence of poses to create freedom and space in the spine. Build a strong and supple spine using the ropes to guide you and support you. The class size of this will be limited and will be in studio only. So pre-register! This class will include all categories of asanas. Bring a mat and the rest of the props will be provided at the studio.

Yin Yoga and Meditation

This class combines seated meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) with a balanced yin yoga practice.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa derives its name from Sanskrit meaning, “to place in a special way” and refers to the dance-like inhalation and exhalation flow of each sequence. Through consciousness of breath, movement and intention, vinyasa flow cultivates exceptional presence while being dynamic, fluid and energizing. With that said, Liz guides slow movements in order for your nervous system to catch up from your otherwise busy lives, so you feel refreshed and ready to go for the next week ahead!

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga classes go well beyond simply modifying yoga poses. The first 15 minutes of class is a discussion around a specific topic of pregnancy or birth, this topic will be addressed through Asana. Childbirth education is seamlessly interwoven through out. This empowers students to continuously learn about pregnancy, the birth process and early parenthood in a very digestible, non-intimidating way. This offers you the chance to learn what coping skills you may gravitate toward. As well as how to use them when you are really experiencing physical and mental discomfort, like in labor and early parenthood. This mindful exploration of yoga poses can leave you feeling more prepared for whatever lies ahead in your pregnancy and birth. Each class includes poses that bring balance and alignment to the body with the intention of encouraging your baby into a more optimal birthing position so you may have a more functional, less complicated birth.

Gentle Vinyasa Flow

Synchronize your breath to movement with this all levels Gentle Flow Yoga class. You will become comfortable in learning the classic concepts of yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation.

Gentle Flow Yoga moves at a slower softer pace than vinyasa yoga. In this class you will flow between shapes, all while maintaining the integrity of alignment in postures. Some poses will be held longer than others to provide a deeper stretch with more focus on breath.
