The Neuroscience of Yin Yoga: A Regenerative Practice Immersion with Devon Sweeney

Friday September 16th, 2022 – 7:00 – 9:30pm
Saturday, September 17th – 2:00 – 7:30 pm
Sunday, September 18th 2:00 – 7:30pm

Recalibrate your system and cultivate a connection to natural healing intelligence in a grounding exploration of Yin Yoga and the Nervous System. Teachers and practitioners are welcome to deepen their understanding in this program, available for Yoga Alliance continuing education credits.

Join Devon Sweeney, E-RYT 500, in a focused weekend immersion including experiential practice, lecture, and discussion based learning to educate ourselves about the neurobiology of rest and self regulation through the lens of Yin Yoga and other simple yogic practices.

We will enjoy a multi-dimensional approach to cultivating simple sequences of renewal and natural meditation through 5 complete Yin Yoga practices. Participants will receive a simple manual with yin sequences, pranayama instructions, notes for each lecture, and resources for self study and practice.

In our lecture and discussion, we will open up an understanding of the Nervous System, including neurobiological feedback systems of our body and how embodiment practices enhance our interoceptive (perception of physiological response) and relational capabilities. We will unpack the current context of the nervous system as it relates to practices of yoga, including the polyvagal theory and the physiology of the nervous system as reflected within the yogic subtle body.

Yin Yoga is a passive, breath oriented meditation on stillness and the natural inner pulse. Our studies across the weekend will harness the roots and evolution of yogic theory to bring a somatic, fluid intelligence, body positive, regenerative approach to developing resilience and understanding your nervous system.

Accessible Vinyasa: Facilitating Flow for Every Body with Devon Sweeney

Dates: Saturday, December 10th – 12:00 – 7:30 pm Sunday, December 11th 1:30 – 8:00pm 15 CEUS $198 earlybird by 11/8/22 $211 regular price after 11/8/22

Accessible Vinyasa is a continuing education program for teachers both new and experienced. This weekend offers techniques and resources to make Vinyasa yoga accessible to a wide range of skill levels and body types.

Many Vinyasa Yoga teacher trainings and techniques focus upon guiding practitioners whose strength and mobility are without limitation. It requires a unique skill set to craft a ‘gentle’ or ‘accessible’ vinyasa sequence to allow beginners and limited mobility practitioners to move with fluidity and calm. Intelligent sequencing and a focus on progressive ‘stages’ of postures (Vinyasa Krama) helps teachers structure asana practices to meet each student where they are. Teachers will learn how to support students to feel empowered through flow regardless of body, age, or skill.

Teaching yoga safely requires supporting all students including and especially those with common physical limitations, injuries, joint replacements, misalignments, low kinesthetic awareness, and general challenges with flexibility or strength. Teachers will complete Accessible Vinyasa feeling prepared to empower a wide range of populations using techniques specific to each.

You will receive:
Manual Workbook

  • Modifications, Asana Variations, and use of props in common asanas for varied populations
  • Techniques for teaching classes with participants of varied skill and experience levels
  • Exploration of Vinyasa Krama to accommodate all bodies to safely experience change
  • Cueing for New Practitioners and Injured/Limited Mobility Practitioners
  • Skills to address Deficiencies in Flexibility or Strength
  • Alternative Asanas and Connecting Vinyasa sequences: How to Plan classes without Down Dog, Lunges, or Chaturanga
  • Resources and Referral methods to stay in your scope as a Yoga Teacher
  • Understanding of Asana dynamics to choose appropriately in the flow to support unexpected physical limitations
  • Manual for methods to address common injuries
  • Simple Hands on Assist Techniques and philosophy for special populations.
